2002 & 2005 Distinguished School
Welcome!
On behalf of Dutcher
Middle School, thank you for visiting our website. As you will
quickly discover, DMS is one of the districts finest schools. We
are fortunate to have a community that values education and
supports our efforts and our students’ efforts to achieve
greatness.
Dutcher Middle School was recognized as a 2005 California
Distinguished School in May, 2005. Dutcher Middle School is on a
traditional calendar with an enrollment of approximately 675
students. Dutcher Middle School is one of two middle/junior high
schools in the Turlock Unified School District. Acceptance into
our school is determined by a lottery draw. Parents submit
applications for acceptance into the school. Once accepted,
students remain with us until they reach the end of their 8th
grade year. Students who are not selected for the program are
placed on waiting lists. We have four significant student
populations according to the CBEDS: White, Hispanic, English
Learners, and low socio-economic. We have thirteen language
groups represented in the school's student population. |

Dutcher Middle School has a reputation in the community as
having a very strong educational program, a quality teaching
staff, and an active parent population. The teachers are
actively engaged in curriculum development through collaborative
planning in their grade levels, as well as, in their subject
matter areas to ensure that all students are presented with a
rich, multi-faceted educational experience. Dutcher is proud to
offer a Two Way Immersion Program for parents interested in
having their children pursue the goals of bilingualism and
bi-literacy along with mastering rigorous academic standards and
developing positive cross-cultural attitudes. The achievement
rate of Dutcher students is the highest in the district for
secondary schools.
Although our school is not a typical neighborhood school where
kids walk to school each day, it is a dynamic, close-knit school
comprised of kids, parents, and staff. Our families are
dedicated and committed to the success of our students. Our
Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) is very active and
highly supportive to the culture of Dutcher Middle School. Our
PTSA supports our school by purchasing books for the library,
funding fieldtrips and dances, and providing funds for clubs.
Dutcher Middle school is a highly successful school due to the
collaborative efforts of our stakeholders: students, parents,
and staff. Each segment of our school community displays the
vision of our school and holds steadfast to the premise that all
Dutcher students can and do learn. Dutcher Middle School is a
mark of excellence.
For those of you who had students attend Dutcher during the
2009-2010 school year, you may have heard about a change in our
school mascot. In May of 2010, the students of Dutcher voted on
a new mascot. Diamondbacks was the unanimous winner. Our school
colors will remain purple, teal, and black.
